                                                      PennHip

PennHIP stands for the University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program and is a specific x-ray technique used to diagnose hip dysplasia.  It is a process whereby only doctors who have successfully completed an intensive training and certification process can perform the x-rays required for a dog to be evaluated using the PennHIP method.  The PennHIP technique of evaluating dogs allows for earlier (16 weeks of age) diagnosis (as opposed to the “older” technique referred to as OFA certification which required dogs be 2 years old).  This allows dogs to be evaluated at an earlier age, which can allow for earlier intervention/treatment options of dogs evaluated with a greater hip laxity and also allows dogs with predisposition to developing hip dysplasia to be removed from the breeding stock.  For more information on PennHIP, please visit the flowing websites or call our office for more information.
